Throughout its history, IndyCar has used rolling starts to begin both oval and road course races. While it has produced very good starts in many races, I believe it lacks the spectacle of a start from a standstill, with more than 20 cars fighting for the lead from the first corner.

The point is that this season there will be some races featuring standing starts. These races will be the Detroit, Toronto and Houston rounds.

For some drivers with experience in more European categories, such as Sebastién Bourdais, this type of start will suit them perfectly, as they are more accustomed to them. For those who are not used to launching from a standstill, the lack of traction control in IndyCar will make things more… interesting.

For now, some team principals are not very happy with the idea, while, on the other hand, some drivers have welcomed with lively enthusiasm the initiative of starting races from a standstill.
