Infiniti and its Forest Air

Luxury cars don’t really know quite what new gadgets to offer their customers to justify the exclusivity and the high price they charge. In this case Infiniti has taken things one step further and will offer a new air-conditioning system called Forest Air in the luxury model M.
The vehicle’s climate control will feature an anti-pollen filter based on grape seed to increase the effect of its ionizer, called Plasmacluster, by 88%. The name sounds more like some weapon that fires massive, continuous laser beams in Star Trek. This system deactivates bacteria, viruses, fungi and certain allergens, as well as unwanted bad odours.
On top of this elaborate mechanism comes a diffuser of calming aromas that help maintain concentration at all times. I’m not sure calming drivers will improve their concentration, perhaps in a traffic jam, perhaps not on a long night drive. We assume Infiniti has studied that possibility.
The gentle breeze of Forest Air will keep the ideal humidity inside the Infiniti M. Frankly it seems a bit of a joke, but whoever buys it will have to pay a price that’s no laughing matter either. I wonder what will happen to those companies that sell scented pine tree air fresheners to hang from the rear-view mirror…
