Infiniti will electrify its range and launch its first electric model from 2021

The CEO of Nissan has announced that Infiniti will electrify its range from 2021, the year in which the first electric model in its history will also see the light

Whether more or less reluctant to introduce electric powertrains into their models, all of them are gradually giving in to this inevitable path. Among them is also, or rather will be, Infiniti, having announced that the arrival of electrically powered models in its lineup will happen sooner rather than later, specifically from the year 2021.

As you already know, Infiniti is the luxury brand of Nissan, which is why the latter’s chief executive officer, Hiroto Saikawa, took charge of announcing the news at the World Congress of Automotive News. Infiniti will begin offering models with electric propulsion systems from 2021, the year in which the brand intends to launch the first purely electric model in its history. So stay tuned, as we will surely soon have the first news about this model.

As the standard-bearer of this new direction at the Japanese brand is the Infiniti Q Inspiration Concept, a model presented at the Detroit Motor Show and which we have recently told you about. The Q Inspiration Concept will lead Infiniti’s electrification, but not only that, since as we were saying, this concept will also serve to show the new design language that Infiniti will begin to imprint on its future models.

Infiniti’s intention is that within its lineup we will be able to choose between purely electric models (EV) or extended-range electric vehicles. The latter will use the e-POWER technology that Nissan presented in 2016, in which an electric motor is responsible for driving the wheels, while the combustion engine is only used to recharge the high-performance batteries. The engineers at Nissan have managed to develop this technology in a single, compact unit, so that it can be installed even in small models.

Therefore, this technology will also be adopted by Infiniti alongside purely electric models, and the brand’s outlook is that by 2025 more than half of its global sales will consist of electric vehicles.
