ITVs will also inspect electronic systems

ITV

Recently, ITVs have been the focus of the main industry news, first with the decision by part of the Ministry of Industry that ITV inspections could be carried out at dealerships, even though the companies involved in technical inspections do not fully agree.

The new proposal, launched during the International Congress of entities related to Vehicle Technical Inspection (CITA) held in Seville, is that ITV stations could also check each vehicle’s electronic devices, for which a new inspection method would have to be implemented. Not wanting to be left behind, Spanish ITV stations fully agreed with this proposal.

It seems they plan to begin implementing it progressively in Spain in the near future, so in addition to passing the car’s technical and mechanical inspections, its electronic safety devices will also have to be tested. This will be done using a device that captures information from the control unit of each vehicle and transmits it to the station’s system.

If the new ITV system is implemented, Spain will be behind Belgium, becoming one of the first European countries to implement it. That said, Spain already ranks ninth in global vehicle production and is losing ground every year; does it make sense to rush the review of electronic systems when fewer and fewer cars are being sold, or is all of this just a way to make ITV inspections more expensive?

  1. Fernando says:
