The Jaguar Future-Type was one of the premieres the British brand will unveil at the Jaguar Land Rover Tech Fest taking place this weekend in London. The futuristic autonomous on-demand model was presented alongside the Sayer steering wheel, an invention unveiled last week, and the reimagined Jaguar E-Type Zero; the British brand’s classic model will move from a traditional combustion engine to a powerful electric powertrain.

The Jaguar Future-Type gives us an idea of what cars will be like in the year 2040, or at least how some premium manufacturers such as Jaguar Land Rover perceive it. We are talking about a 100% electric model with level 5 autonomous driving technology (the highest level) that can also be driven manually. The model has three seats and will serve as the support for the intelligent Sayer steering wheel.

The Jaguar Future-Type can be purchased complete, that is, including the intelligent steering wheel, or separately. In fact, the company assures that the Sayer steering wheel will in the future be one of the few elements that remain the property of the end user, while cars will end up being shared among several users. Indeed, that is exactly the case with the Future-Type. Although the futuristic model can be purchased exclusively, it will be part of a carsharing network where users can reserve the vehicle on demand and share it among themselves.

“Our Future-Type Concept is an advanced research project with which we are trying to find out what response a made-to-order vehicle would get from customers in 2040. Whether used to get to work, to pick up children from school autonomously, or to enjoy driving at the weekend, if the option of on-demand cars circulating through cities takes hold, we need to make sure customers want our service 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, over our competitors,” says Ian Callum, design director at Jaguar.
