Jaguar I-PACE eTrophy: an electric SUV ready to race

On May 19, coinciding with the Berlin e-Prix of the Formula E, the Jaguar I-PACE eTrophy will be unveiled worldwide. It is the SUV that will compete in the first world championship of electric cars based on production models.

The Jaguar I-Pace, the first electric vehicle from Jaguar, was launched on the market in March. It is on sale in Spain with prices starting at €79,100. Now, Jaguar confirms the worldwide unveiling of the Jaguar I-Pace E-Trophy, the racing version of the electric SUV based on the production model, which will be used in the new eTrophy championship.

Up to 20 Jaguar I-Pace eTrophy cars will compete in the first championship of racing electric cars derived from production models.

And what better setting to unveil the I-Pace eTrophy than a Formula E race, especially when the championship will support the single-seater electric competition—in which Jaguar takes part as an official team—from the 2018/2019 season onwards. The event will take place on May 19 in Berlin.

The I-Pace eTrophy was developed jointly by Jaguar Racing and the SVO (Special Vehicle Operations) department of Jaguar Land Rover, with Michelin and M-Sport specialists as technical partners. Compared with the production SUV, work has focused on tuning the chassis for track driving, with adjustments also made to the aerodynamics, the powertrain and energy management. The electric SUV has already been tested at Jaguar’s facilities in Gaydon and at Michelin’s Technical Centre in Ladoux.

Pending the final calendar, Jaguar announces that the eTrophy championship grid will feature up to 20 units of the racing I-Pace, which will compete as a support event to Formula E in the world’s major cities. Races have already been confirmed in Hong Kong, Paris, Rome and New York for the 2018/2019 season.

Through the special “Arrive and Drive” programme launched by Jaguar Racing, interested teams will gain access to a championship consisting of 10 races, with professional technical support including vehicle preparation, data engineering, logistics, tyres and accommodation.
