Jaguar Land Rover is investing $18 billion to manufacture electric cars

Jaguar Land Rover is making a strong bet on the production of electric cars. It will invest $18 billion (€15.5 billion) over the next 3 years, increasing its investment in this area by 26%.

Despite not having reached the number of sales the British company expected from the start of the year until March, Jaguar Land Rover is looking to take another step forward to boost, even further, the production of electric cars, which seem set to become the standard of the future in the motoring world.

Surprisingly, this push by the English manufacturer towards electric cars comes even though 90% of its sales during the year come from its diesel models, which shows the manufacturer’s commitment to electric technology.

By 2025, Jaguar Land Rover intends to offer hybrid versions of its combustion models, and only if demand is strong enough will it offer fully electric versions of certain models. The huge 6-storey factory in the United Kingdom will be adapted and modernised to carry out these projects efficiently.

The first fully electric model built by Jaguar is the I-Pace, positioning itself as a direct competitor to the Tesla X, which, even as the brand’s first attempt at building an electric crossover, has been met with a very positive overall response from reviewers.

In addition to producing electric cars, Jaguar Land Rover is also investing in the production of self-driving cars, that is, autonomous vehicles. In fact, they are carrying out very interesting tests like this one to gradually move closer to the “intelligent” car, which, whether we like it or not, we know will be the future of driving given its safety, comfort and efficiency.

During the presentation, Jaguar Land Rover also said that they are working to open an information centre, software and technology hub in Manchester. This development is also designed to drive the development of autonomous cars.
