Civic Type R is unstoppable: new record at Silverstone with 2 minutes and 31 seconds

Honda went to the Silverstone circuit with the Civic Type R to keep breaking records, where it set a lap time of 2:31.32 minutes.

Hot hatchbacks never stop surprising us with their astonishing performance, which allows them to achieve certain feats typical of higher segments. Within this group of impressive vehicles we find the Honda Civic Type R, a model that, while not the most powerful, manages to outclass its rivals with its remarkable track efficiency. Once again, the Japanese brand has shown its dominance on circuits by setting a new record at Silverstone, where the Type R has managed to tear up the asphalt of the English track.

Honda has set itself the goal of breaking records on different circuits throughout this summer and, so far, it is meeting that target. The Civic Type R has presented itself as the ideal candidate to conquer circuits, since its design and tuning are two elements conceived to secure victory for any driver who dares to test the efficiency of the Japanese compact.

Silverstone was the next stop for Honda, where the Civic Type R did its job and turned the clock around by setting a new record. To do so, Honda enlisted the help of Matt Neal, an experienced English driver who has won numerous titles, among them three first-place finishes in the British Touring Car Championship.

Neal, behind the wheel of the Civic Type R, tackled the Silverstone circuit, which is made up of 5.89 kilometres of straights and winding corners that pushed both driver and Japanese compact to give their best. However, Honda’s engineers prepared their Civic Type R to face any type of circuit, and the English track would not be an obstacle to its unblemished record.

The Honda Civic Type R houses a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder engine capable of delivering 320 CV of power and 400 Nm of torque. With these figures, the Japanese compact can reach 100 km/h in just 5.7 seconds and a top speed of an impressive 270 km/h. At the same time, Matt Neal made the most of this performance in order to set this new record.

The English driver and the Honda Civic Type R managed to stop the clock at 2:31.32 minutes, which allowed them to set a new record at Silverstone. This is only the beginning for Honda’s sports compact, which will keep winning titles and conquering circuits throughout the summer, with the aim of demonstrating its capabilities not only on the road but also on the track.
