The Jeep Avenger has been chosen as European Car of the Year 2023. The model, the first battery electric vehicle, has become the first Jeep to win the award in the 60-year history of this competition. It is worth noting that the title was contested among the following models: Kia Niro, Nissan Ariya, Peugeot 408, Renault Austral, Subaru Solterra/Toyota bZ4X and Volkswagen ID Buzz.

The Jeep B-SUV scored 328 points and was chosen by 21 judges, beating the second-placed model by 87 points. The result was announced at a ceremony held at the Brussels Motor Show, Belgium, on Friday 13 January.

Søren W. Rasmussen, new president of the European Car of the Year Jury, added that “the Jeep Avenger is a deserving winner of the Car of the Year award. It convincingly reflects the moment the automotive world has entered, and its design radiates the great change facing this well-known brand. The Jeep Avenger is a true European, and it has so many good qualities that the jury is very pleased to back the title: Car of the Year 2023. Congratulations!”

For its part, Christian Meunier, CEO of Jeep, noted that “we are honoured and proud that this distinguished panel of European automotive experts has chosen the first fully electric SUV from the Jeep brand as European Car of the Year. This is the first time the Jeep brand has been both a finalist and the winner of this competition, which underlines the importance of the Jeep Avenger as a key element of our global electrification strategy, as the brand moves towards becoming the global leader in zero-emission SUVs. Congratulations to all the other finalists in a very hotly contested competition.”

The Jeep electric B-SUV was unveiled on 17 October during the Paris Motor Show. It is worth mentioning that in less than three months since the start of the pre-reservation period for the exclusive 1st edition, the fully equipped version, more than 8,000 units were sold, 60% of them outside Italy.

The new European Car of the Year 2023 offers an electric range of 400 kilometres on the WLTP homologation cycle and up to 550 kilometres in urban driving. The powertrain consists of a 400-volt electric motor producing 115 kilowatts and 260 Nm of peak torque, and a new 54 kWh battery. It measures four metres in length and belongs to one of the largest and most successful segments of the market.

Antonella Bruno, head of the Jeep brand in Europe, stated that “the Avenger confirms the commitment of the Jeep brand to the European market and to electrification. It represents a major step in the electric evolution of the Jeep brand in Europe, and leads a range of powerful, fully electric vehicles designed for Europe.”
