Keeping the windscreen and windows in good condition during the summer
Windscreens and side windows suffer from high temperatures, so it is advisable to follow these tips to keep them in good condition in summer.

We have previously discussed windscreen care in winter, but now we would like to offer you some tips for keeping the windscreen in good condition in summer too. Windscreens and windows are subject to the effects of sun and heat, so they suffer quite a lot from high temperatures. But in summer there are other problems that can end up damaging their surface, so you need to act with care, as the experts at Carglass remind us.
Watch out for cracks and impacts on the windscreen
An impact on the windscreen may not pose an immediate danger. A small crack may not either, but if it is left alone, it can spread and cover more of the glass surface. A crack in the glass will not cause the glass to shatter explosively, but it will spread and end up creating a visibility problem. So, at the first sign of any small impact or crack, take the car to the workshop to solve the problem. It can often be repaired, so the glass won’t even need to be replaced. A repaired windscreen has the same characteristics as a new, undamaged one. If in doubt, the specialist will recommend replacing it with a new one.

Wiper blades and washer fluid
These are two essential elements for keeping the windscreen clean. The wiper blades must be in good condition. They are responsible for sweeping dirt off the glass, and they need to be working properly for that to happen correctly. The washer fluid is the liquid that wets the glass and helps loosen stubborn dirt on it. Working together, the spray and the wipers clean off the dirt and leave your field of vision clear.
You should not wait for X months to pass since the wiper blades were last changed; replace them as soon as you notice they are no longer cleaning properly. The windscreen washer fluid is best if it is a specific product, although you can fill the reservoir with distilled water. This does help to wet the dirt, but it is not as effective. The key thing is to keep the reservoir always full.
Take dust into account
Dust can be a major problem, because it is not noticeable. While it is airborne it is not visible, but if it settles on the windscreen it can form a very thin film that does not stand out much. However, when you switch on the wipers it can move, and friction against the glass can cause abrasion on the glass and scratch it. Make sure to spray the washer fluid or wet the whole surface beforehand, so that it can be cleaned easily and cause no damage.
When it rains in summer, it often brings dust, which means when it falls it forms a layer of mud. Wet it thoroughly so that it cleans properly and does not reduce visibility.

Do not spray the windscreen with the sun in your eyes
Sun in your eyes can leave you dazzled. But if you also spray the windscreen, the situation can get worse. The sun can create a dazzling effect, so visibility can drop considerably. It is better to wait until you can stop and clean the windscreen then, using a sponge or damp cloth if necessary. This way you avoid the risk of losing visibility and having an accident.
Check the condition of the windscreen before setting off
In summer people often look for parking in shaded areas. This means they usually park under the shade of a tree or a building. In both cases the car may get dirty from birds and their droppings, or from the sap or fruit of certain trees. Before pulling away it is advisable to remove them with a damp cloth or sponge.
These stains can spread across the windscreen if the wipers are switched on and impair visibility. So it is better to clean it beforehand.
These tips will help keep the windscreen clean and free of those small damages that can be dangerous when driving in summer.
