Kia makes the Ceed family more efficient: now with 48V technology
Kia has just announced the arrival of 48V technology for its 1.6-litre diesel engine producing 136 CV, a technology capable of reducing both consumption and emissions.
The automotive sector is looking after the well-being of the planet, something made possible by the many alternatives that exist to the traditional combustion engine. Kia, which has already demonstrated on several occasions its ability to develop these options that are more committed to the environment, has wanted to go one step further. The Korean brand has presented a new variant for its Ceed family, a family that now debuts mild hybridisation by means of a 48V system, an option to traditional hybrids and PHEVs.
Many brands are joining this technology with three goals: reducing consumption, reducing emissions and earning the ECO label. With these three premises, the Ceed range from Kia becomes one of the most interesting alternatives on the market, offering significant advantages over a conventional combustion vehicle.
For now, this technology will be associated only with the 1.6-litre diesel engine producing 136 CV. Yes, Kia believes diesel engines still have a place in the market, and even more so when backed by this type of solution that helps drastically reduce emissions. However, the news does not end here.

The engineers at the Korean company have designed an intelligent manual gearbox called iMT, which will be used in every vehicle with a 48V system. That acronym hides a technology capable of reducing consumption and CO2 emissions, as we have already noted, something made possible by an electronic system that replaces the mechanical actuation of the clutch.
When the car coasts, the iMT coordinates with the mild-hybrid starter-generator to shut off the engine before the Start/Stop system does. Another facet of this innovative invention is the ability to switch off the engine for brief periods at speeds of up to 125 km/h and restart as soon as the driver presses the accelerator.

In this context, Kia guarantees not only an overall improvement in fuel efficiency, but also a 3% reduction in CO2 emissions under real-world driving conditions. Without a doubt, it is only a matter of time before pollution stops being a problem of today’s cars, and without the need to eradicate combustion options, which are experiencing technologies capable of mitigating their pollution and harmful gases for the environment.
