Kia Stinger: another candidate for the 2018 Car of the Year appears

The arrival of the new Kia Stinger has been a revolution in every sense. It is one of the most desired vehicles of recent years, and this is no surprise, since the new Stinger has a lot to offer. The new model from Kia arrives as a four-door sports coupé and aims to take on its German rivals. But it is not only the public who has loved this car; the jury that decides the next Car of the Year has also been impressed.

We recently told you that the Citroën C3 Aircross was positioning itself as one of the finalists in this competition, but the vehicles taking part do not necessarily belong to the same segment. This is where the Korean sports car steps in to compete with the other models in the running. Without a doubt, the new Stinger has a great many chances of taking the win.

Let us remember that the jury assesses the participating vehicles through demanding tests, and the Kia Stinger has achieved top marks in all of them. In this way, the sports car has reached the position it holds right now. Design and safety were also taken into account when rating the Stinger.

We must acknowledge that the new Kia has a rather attractive styling, thanks to its four-door coupé design. It shows an aggressive and sporty exterior, yet at the same time it exudes elegance from every angle. Kia offers a completely new design that nonetheless grows out of the brand’s typical traits. On the other hand, the Korean manufacturer has made sure to create an interior that lives up to the rest.

The materials used in the new Kia Stinger are first-class, with leather, aluminium and Alcantara throughout the whole ensemble. In this way, the new saloon is positioned on a level with the Audi A5 Sportback, the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupé and the new Volkswagen Arteon. But to stand up to these vehicles, Kia has had to work thoroughly on the mechanical side.

This is why the new Stinger is offered with three very different engines. The entry version features a powerful 2.2-litre CRDi diesel engine producing 200 CV. This variant stands out as a very attractive alternative thanks to the balance it offers between consumption and sportiness. There are also two petrol engines: the first is a 2.0 turbo delivering 255 CV, and the top spot goes to the all-powerful Stinger GT with its 370 CV V6.

Without a doubt, the new Kia Stinger meets every requirement to become a great car, and the Car of the Year jury sees it in the same light. For now we will have to wait until March of next year to learn which lucky vehicle will be awarded this honour.
