Lada will make its comeback this week at the 2014 Moscow Motor Show with two models

This week the 2014 Moscow Motor Show kicks off, an event that will showcase plenty of new releases, mainly focused on models that will be sold in the region’s markets. One brand that will present its new proposals is Lada, a company that has for years supplied city cars to these Eastern European markets.

The brand is bringing two cars to this event: the production saloon Vesta and the concept car XRay, a hatchback that you can see in the images accompanying this article and that we were able to see a day before they go on display at the Russian show.

Lada has always been known for building economical cars, with low fuel consumption and, as a consequence, modest performance. A genuine “people’s car” that has been updated little by little to project a more suitable image for today’s times. In fact, the Lada Vesta arrives to replace the Lada Priora.

The Priora has become somewhat outdated, and the Vesta will be its successor. Lada has come under the control of the Renault-Nissan alliance, and this has encouraged the introduction of new design languages which, without generating additional costs, offer greater quality and design in the new models presented.

Both vehicles have a wheelbase of 2.65 metres, but the Vesta is longer than the XRay. The Vesta reaches 4.35 metres and will feature plenty of elements of Renault in its design. Both vehicles will be ready for sale from 2015 in the case of the Vesta and from early 2016 in the case of the smaller model. Their traditional markets are Russia and other neighbouring countries, so we do not yet know whether they will reach the rest of Europe.
