At the Geneva Motor Show, Land Rover presented a very interesting version of one of its best-selling models: the Land Rover Discovery Project Hero. This special edition was unveiled alongside the eagerly awaited Range Rover Velar. The Project Hero version was developed together with the Red Cross with the aim of reducing response times during emergency operations.

The special version of the Discovery was created in collaboration with the Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) division of the Austrian Red Cross. This model comes equipped with a drone on its roof that incorporates a remarkably revolutionary landing system. Thanks to self-centering magnetic technology, the drone can land on the vehicle even while it is in motion.

The drone will be used by the Red Cross emergency services to send real-time images to their response teams. This live communication with the drone allows rescue teams to act with greater immediacy in the event of natural disasters such as avalanches, floods or earthquakes. The device can also fly over areas that are difficult to access and carry out the necessary inspections.

The Land Rover Discovery Project Hero includes a radio system to improve communication between rescue teams, as well as an additional LED lighting system that increases brightness in dark areas. It also features an extendable table in its cabin to treat a patient if the situation requires it.

Over the next 12 months, the Austrian Red Cross will test this new version, aimed at rescue teams, in the mountainous area of Eisenerz and in Vienna.
