Liberty Electric Cars promises an electric car with a range of 1,600 kilometres by 2014

If we were to go by the promises we have heard from electric vehicle manufacturers, whether more or less well-known, there would today be vehicles able to travel thousands of kilometres without needing a recharge. Electric technology has shown little progress in terms of range, but Liberty Electric Cars is coming along to set things straight.

This small British company is reported to have been working on a vehicle whose range could be around 1,600 kilometres and which would be unveiled during the coming year.

There is not much more data we can mention, only the fact that in the past this same company had specialised in the conversion of Range Rover and Land Rover (apparently in partnership with the same Land Rover), so perhaps the next model that revolutionises the range an electric vehicle could have would surely be one of these SUVs. The most accomplished example is the Range Rover Range_e, a model that appeared at Geneva a couple of years ago.

On the other hand, it is almost impossible to achieve that range with today’s lithium-ion batteries, unless the future vehicle accepts an excessively high weight, with the batteries accounting for more than half of the total weight. Imagine the 1,000 kilos of batteries that would have to last 1,600 kilometres, and how long it would take to recharge them.
