Maserati Ghibli 2014 (1)

Maserati has revealed the first data and images of the Ghibli, a new saloon that sits one step below the Quattroporte. The Italian luxury saloon will be officially presented at the 2013 Shanghai Motor Show and will reach the market early next year with a starting price of €70,000.

The size of the vehicle is still unknown, but judging by these first photographs, the Ghibli will be an E-segment vehicle. Unlike many of its rivals, however, the Maserati will be more luxurious and exclusive than them. Its design, like that of the Quattroporte, blends the elegance and sportiness that has always characterised the brand of the trident.

The most noteworthy aspect of this saloon is neither its size nor its design, but its mechanical layout. For the first time in a Maserati, a diesel engine with a 3.0-litre V6 configuration will be available. Alongside it there are two supercharged petrol V6 engines. The gearbox will be an eight-speed automatic, and there will be the option of rear-wheel or all-wheel drive.

The Maserati Ghibli 2014 will possibly be the most important model in reaching the company’s goal of selling 50,000 units per year. Furthermore, the Ghibli will share its platform with a future Alfa Romeo model.
