Maserati MCXtrema: the brand's return to the track is confirmed with this supercar

This supercar is designed to offer the chance to enjoy the track in a car prepared to deliver a different and intense experience.

It won’t arrive until summer, but the brand wanted us to get a small preview of what the Maserati MCXtrema will be. This supercar is designed to take the MC20 a step forward and is an evolution of that model. The MCXtrema benefits from the four years of testing and experience applied to the previous model and has also undergone hours of laboratory testing.

This track vehicle was presented at the past Monterey Car Week 2023 and has been proposed to have a series of just 62 units. Of course, each of those units that will go on sale can be personalised thanks to the MCXlusiva programme, so each one will be different from the rest, to the taste of its owner.

It has enjoyed some 200 hours of dynamic simulation and 1,000 hours of virtual analysis. In addition, it has just been revealed that during February it made its debut on the track, where it had the opportunity to show all its capabilities. The setting for these real-environment tests was the Autodromo Varano de’ Melegari, in Parma. Behind the wheel during these tests was chief test driver Andrea Bertolini.

Its bodywork makes its intentions clear: to smash lap times on track. It even does without headlights, and instead thin strips of LED lights have been fitted, which provide enough light to move around safely. The bonnet houses large air intakes that give it a different and bolder look than other similar cars.

It sits on a chassis designed to be enjoyed on the track, made from carbon fibre. It features double wishbone suspension with semi-virtual steering axis, plus competition-dedicated adjustable dampers and configurable front and rear anti-roll bars. The Brembo competition brakes are fitted with a custom-made cooling system. The 18-inch forged aluminium wheels are shod with tyres designed for the track and that are not road-homologated.

Although it is designed for the track, it is not meant to be focused on competition. Its characteristics, which steer clear of the constraints of official regulations, make it perfect for private use on the track, in private series and in brand experiences designed for its owners. These will be named MCXperience and will bring together owners of this very exclusive model to enjoy intense laps of the circuit.

MCXtrema engine

The Maserati MCXtrema is equipped with a 3.0-litre V6 engine that delivers 720 CV of power and a maximum torque of 730 Nm. It is paired with a six-speed sequential gearbox that sends torque to the rear axle through a rear limited-slip differential.
