Maserati will limit its production to maintain exclusivity

For the second time, the Fiat Group has decided to limit the production of one of its brands. It already did so with Ferrari by capping it at 7,000 units, and now it is the turn of Maserati, which will not exceed 75,000 units produced in a year.

The Fiat Group has decided to limit the production of one of its most recognized and admired brands. We are talking about Maserati, which will follow in the footsteps of Ferrari.

This move will not make Maserati the most popular brand in the world, but it will give it an aura of exclusivity that the Fiat Group has long pursued.

The general public has often identified Maserati as a “more comfortable and elegant Ferrari“. In a way, that is true, since the company’s vehicles share a deep relationship with the brand of the prancing horse. The Fiat Group, owner of both, has always known how to keep them apart so that there would be no negative interference.

Now, it has taken the step of limiting the production of this brand, so that Maserati will not produce more than 75,000 units in a year. This is not a particularly low figure if we take into account that Ferrari has limited itself to 7,000 units, but it must be borne in mind that the trident brand has more vehicles in its range than Ferrari does.

The figure of 75,000 cars will not be an immediate ceiling, since the Italian company does not currently reach this number in production. The 75,000 units will be the maximum cap by around 2018, the point at which Maserati production will reach that figure.

Currently, Maserati has two saloons in production, the Ghibli and the Quattroporte, as well as the GranTurismo, a four-seat coupé offered in various more or less sporty trims, and a convertible version called GranCabrio.
In 2013, Maserati sales figures came close to 15,000 units, while forecasts for 2015 point to around 50,000 vehicles delivered.

In a few months, the Maserati range will be expanded with the arrival of two new models. The first will be a crossover called Levante, which will be joined by the Alfieri, a small high-performance coupé, in the style of the Jaguar F-Type.
