Mazda confirms the trend: a CX-9 and a CX-5 with seven seats

Only a few years ago, anyone who owned an off-roader needed to travel over difficult and demanding terrain. Today, the so-called SUVs have become the kings of the market, with a rise in their market share in every country. These are cars that allow elegant driving in the city and, in addition, easy handling on journeys off the main roads, across rural terrain. A combination that has become essential for drivers across Europe, America and even Asia.
Now that this trend has stabilised, and after the arrival of more compact crossovers, ideal for the city, the focus is starting to shift in the opposite direction. In other words, looking for more size, comfort and above all, space. So the new SUVs are being designed to comfortably carry up to seven occupants, aiming to be practical not only on rural terrain but also for family use.

Several models have already appeared, but more and more brands are joining this trend, seeking the space needed so the whole family can enjoy the journey. Mazda is one of those that have thought about this and has prepared a version of its popular SUV range with seven seats. The CX-9 will arrive with seven seats shortly, but it will not be the only model in the range to gain this extra seating.
The Mazda CX-5 will also have the option of two auxiliary seats in the rear. In the case of this model, there are several unknowns, since it is a more compact model with less capacity to accommodate two extra occupants from the outset. The two extra seats are expected to be for children, so they would be small seats, not suitable for an average-sized adult.
This does not mean the extra occupants will be denied comfort; rather, a redistribution of the seats will suffice so that everyone travels comfortably, leaving no excuse for not enjoying a journey along those demanding routes that lack the comfort of asphalt. We will see both versions within a few months, although they are expected to be sold initially only in Japan. Will they reach us soon?
