Mazda MX-5 Icon Edition, straight to the Goodwood Festival

The Goodwood Festival of Speed, also known as FoS for its initials in English, is a motoring event that, although held on an estate (called Goodwood House) in England, generates the anticipation of thousands upon thousands of enthusiasts; and, more importantly, of car and motorcycle brands that don’t want to miss the already traditional gathering.
At the Goodwood Festival of Speed you can see cars and motorcycles of every kind. From sporty versions or special editions just launched, or even unveiled right there, to relics with priceless value and nearly a century of history behind them. They don’t even have to be road-legal vehicles, and it’s very possible to come across a Formula 1 car running along the short, narrow stretch of track, right after a sporty version of the latest crossover has passed by.
Only 600 units, all with right-hand driveOnce you’re up to speed, you should know that one of the brands that will be presenting a special edition at this event is Mazda. Yes, the Japanese are not missing this event either. It is the Mazda MX-5 Icon Edition, a limited and exclusive edition for the British market, of which only 600 units will be built, all of them, obviously, with right-hand drive. That name may already sound familiar, and that’s because Mazda has already used it on its roadster before.

As you well know, the Mazda MX-5 is available with two engine options, one producing 131 hp and the other 160 hp; we tested the more powerful one a few weeks ago. This special edition is based on the less powerful version and does not incorporate any dynamic improvements. Its selling point is a distinctive styling with red finishes that on the exterior can be seen on the mirrors, on the lower part of the front bumper and on the discreet rear spoiler, which now is no longer so discreet precisely because of that color. These touches create a strong contrast, since the available body colors are white and grey.
As for the equipment, the Mazda MX-5 Icon Edition will come as standard with black leather upholstered seats, automatic lights and rear parking sensors. Its price is almost £21,000, which at the exchange rate works out to roughly €26,600.
It will not be the only star of Mazda’s MX-5 range at Goodwood, as we will also see the attractive Mazda MX-5 RF.
