Mazda has chosen the New York Auto Show to host one of the most important celebrations of 2014 marking the 25th anniversary of the MX-5. The brand’s stand from Hiroshima features some of the most special units in the history of the roadster, along with two new models. In addition to the SKYACTIV architecture that Mazda will use in the fourth generation of the model, the 25th Anniversary edition is being presented to the public, which will not be sold in Spain.

The Soul Red metallic paint on the bodywork creates an elegant contrast with the black that decorates the exterior mirror housings, the A-pillars and the retractable hard top. Inside, the ivory upholstery on the doors and seats, along with the red stitching on the steering wheel rim, creates an effect similar to that of the other dark elements.

The edition’s logo appears on a small plate placed between the front wheel arches and the doors, and is embroidered on the seat headrests. The MX-5 25th Anniversary comes as standard with Bilstein sport dampers and is available with either the manual or the six-speed automatic gearbox.

As for the SKYACTIV architecture, the new generation will be characterised by its engine mounted longitudinally just behind the front axle. Mazda aims to give this MX-5 a lower centre of gravity, a more rigid structure and a weight reduction of one hundred kilograms, bringing it close to exactly one tonne.
