McLaren Grand Tourer, first images on the road
McLaren Grand Tourer has been spotted on the road in the middle of its development phase. Wearing camouflage, it will complete a 1,600 km journey from Barcelona to Woking.
The McLaren Grand Tourer was announced at the Geneva Motor Show by its CEO, Mike Flewitt. When announcing it, he assured that it would be: “elegant, striking, beautiful and the most practical of mid-engined cars.”
The latest images of the McLaren Grand Tourer stand out for the distinctive camouflage covering the vehicle. A design that the brand promises will gradually disappear, although it will be from April 30 onwards.
McLaren Grand Tourer, comfort without giving up sportiness
The goal of the McLaren Grand Tourer is clear, as Mike Flewitt explains: “It is a car designed for distance, comfort and space expected of a Grand Tourer, but with a level of agility never before seen in this segment”.
Therefore, the McLaren Gran Tourer will be aimed at users looking for a hybrid of comfort and sportiness. Guaranteed speed over long distances without sacrificing safety.
However, although the real name has not yet been confirmed, the brand usually refers to it that way. According to McLaren, the photos accompanying this text show the vehicle’s final shape, but the bodywork lacks the false panels that were used at the beginning.
Bodywork of the McLaren, featuring new elements
Regarding the bodywork and what the camouflage allows us to see, the more curvaceous rear§h30# stands out, featuring slimmer LED lights and chrome exhaust pipes that give it a more sporty look.
Likewise, the front follows the current design line of the McLaren models. A very low nose and angular headlights. Another notable aspect is the large windscreen, which will provide good visibility.
Finally, regarding mechanical aspects, it is only known that the McLaren Grand Tourer will incorporate its usual twin-turbo V8. Therefore, thanks to its power-to-weight ratio, it could become one of the fastest.
A vehicle born to please a clientele that has its neighbours in Aston Martin as the reference among GTs. That is why this new car starts from the need to face competitors such as the brand-new Aston Martin DB11, a bet on beauty, sportiness and luxury, all in one, and against which this McLaren GT will have to face off, on and off the track, but also on open roads against the best Grand Tourers of the moment.
