McLaren is working on a new model called P15

While the Formula 1 division of McLaren already has its new MP4-29 ready for this season, and the road car division is preparing to present the P13, in Woking they still have time to think about what comes after all of that. Thanks to the statements of the British manufacturer’s chief executive, Mike Flewitt, to Autocar magazine, it is already known that this future model will be called P15.
The next stage in the expansion of the McLaren range will take place between the 12C and the P1. This model still has a lot of development pending, but the English publication was able to confirm its first details. The P15 will share the carbon fibre chassis with the rest of McLaren’s products and will use a turbocharged mid-engine that will probably be derived from the 3.8 V8 of the 12C.
From McLaren they warn that, since they have only just begun working on this model, these technical details may change in the future depending on the decisions taken along the way. Nevertheless, Autocar dares to estimate a price of around 400,000 pounds, a little under 483,000 euros at the current exchange rate. That means it will be much more expensive than a Ferrari F12berlinetta or a Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4, its potential rivals given the position the P15 will occupy.
With this sports car and the derived versions of the new P13, McLaren could exceed its current maximum production capacity of 6,000 cars per year. For now, the brand has pending this year the launch of a more radical version of the 12C aimed at competing with the Ferrari 458 Speciale and company. Once the P13 arrives, its attention will focus on expanding that model’s range.
