Mercedes-AMG begins performance testing of its new electric vehicle platform in Sweden

The German manufacturer remains committed to electric mobility in the coming years, as shown by the development of a new platform for its high-performance vehicles with this propulsion system

A new generation of electric Mercedes-AMG vehicles is just around the corner. The German manufacturer has taken its engineers out of the laboratories and sent them to northern Sweden to begin winter testing of a new platform designed for this type of vehicle. Called AMG.EA –AMG Electric Architecture– this new platform will be used for the brand’s high-performance models.

The first Mercedes-AMG vehicles based on the AMG.EA platform are expected to roll out of the German manufacturer’s Sindelfingen plant towards the end of this year. To make this possible, the company says it will carry out an intensive testing programme on this platform over the coming weeks, subjecting it to the most demanding tests to find out how far it can go.

According to Mercedes-AMG, the performance tests of this new platform are currently in their first phase. The tests that have started in northern Sweden, taking advantage of the low temperatures recorded in that region of the world at this time of year, will be followed in the coming months by similar tests in extreme climate zones on other continents.

For the time being, Mercedes-AMG has not wished to reveal specific details about its new AMG.EA platform, limiting itself to stating that it will be technologically pioneering in many respects, bringing with it numerous innovations that its customers are sure to appreciate.

Energy efficiency is a key factor in any electric vehicle

Meanwhile, and as we already reported in a recent post, Mercedes-Benz continues to work on improving the energy efficiency of its Vision EQXX prototype. As a result of these efforts, this model has just completed for the third time a journey of more than a thousand kilometres on a single charge, this time between the cities of Riyadh in Saudi Arabia and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.

Although this should no longer be news, since it had already achieved it on two previous occasions, what is newsworthy is that on this occasion energy consumption was much lower, with just 7.4 kWh per 100 km travelled. A figure that was achieved even with the air conditioning switched on to make the journey more comfortable in this hot region of the world.
