Mercedes-Benz A-Class BlueEFFICIENCY Edition

Something is changing at Mercedes-Benz. Its executives have realised that the business is not with older or retired people, as they had previously thought, but with a younger or not-so-old audience: people who want modern, attractive lines on a vehicle capable of delivering sporty sensations, an even simpler proposition given that most of its vehicles are rear-wheel drive.
The Mercedes-Benz A-Class, the biggest reinvention in a long time, a car that went from being a mini-MPV to the compact sports car everyone wants, will offer its customers an edition called BlueEFFICIENCY, designed to attract buyers with an environmental conscience.
The main cosmetic differences of this edition compared with the current range centre on a revised grille and a new set of LED daytime running lights. The tailgate is now lower with the aim of reducing aerodynamic drag. Underbody aerodynamics have also been improved, on the floor of the A-Class. The suspension has been lowered by 15 mm.
Mechanically, two engines are available, one petrol and one diesel. The first, called the A 180, has a 1.6-litre petrol engine that produces 122 CV. With all the improvements mentioned above, it achieves a homologated average consumption of just 5.2 litres/100 km.
The diesel features a 1.5-litre engine that delivers 109 CV of power to the front wheels. This has become the most efficient powerplant in the brand’s history, with consumption of just 3.6 litres/100 km.
Both engines use longer gear ratios than usual.
