Mercedes-Benz CLS: new features arriving in 2015

Mercedes-Benz has almost finished the facelift of its coupé-styled saloon, the CLS. It is an update that will arrive in 2015.

The CLS improves its equipment and design in order to compete in one of the toughest segments on the market.

The German firm has placed special emphasis on improving technology, highlighting the new lighting system. The CLS already features LED technology in both the front and rear lighting; in fact, it was one of the first models to offer Full-LED headlights.

Now, the CLS will debut more and better features within its lighting system, which will make the CLS one of the most advanced vehicles in the world in this area. Mercedes-Benz has developed a lighting system called Multibeam LED, made up of 24 individual LED modules capable of adjusting 100 times per second thanks to the combined action of a camera and four control units.

Thanks to this new system, the CLS will be able to detect oncoming traffic, adapting the light beam extremely precisely, to the point of no longer illuminating only the area where the approaching car in the opposite direction is located.

This system of cameras and control units will also serve to illuminate dangerous areas as early as possible. In addition, it will be able to interact with the navigation system, so that it will change the light beam if the vehicle approaches difficult spots such as intersections or crossings.

The new front headlights will also incorporate further innovations, such as a fibre-optic strip capable of changing colour and function depending on the demands of the moment. Thus, it can act both as daytime running light and as a turn indicator, also performing the “welcome light” function by taking on a violet tone.

In addition to this update in the field of lighting, the CLS will also debut slight aesthetic revisions both inside and outside, as well as improvements to standard equipment. The Mercedes-Benz CLS 2015 will almost certainly be unveiled at this year’s Goodwood Festival.
