Mercedes-Benz GLA: All the details and official photos

The guys at Mercedes-Benz didn’t take long to break the silence. The rumors and leaks had become so widespread that there was no point in keeping the new member of the German family hidden any longer.
Yesterday we showed you a video in which Mercedes already revealed some real details of the production model, but the GLA is now, as of today, a tangible reality thanks to all the data and photographs released by the manufacturer.
As we reported yesterday, the A-Class is enjoying enormous success, and the brand wants to repeat it with its more rugged version.
To do so, it has prepared a very aggressive design that accentuates the lines of the A-Class, while also showcasing its potential as a vehicle for tackling unpaved roads. The rear gains considerable presence thanks to new, wider light clusters and a reinforced bumper with exposed plastic trim. In addition, the raised suspension helps create a greater sense of command, as in all of today’s SUVs.

According to the brand, one of the main pillars in building this car has been the pursuit of the greatest possible practicality. That is why the interior features rear seats that fold down completely, leaving a flat loading surface that can reach up to 836 liters. With the rear seats in their normal position, boot capacity is 421 liters. In addition, and exclusively on this version, the rear seats can also be adjusted to different recline angles. It is not an especially large figure, but it is in line with the standards of the segment.
The technical side has been modified to accommodate the GLA’s new features. The suspension has been raised to gain ground clearance, so that the GLA can tackle obstacles with reasonable confidence, although it is by no means a pure off-roader.
The drivetrain can be front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive with the 4Matic system. GLAs with front-wheel drive also include off-road driver assistance systems, so their drivers can enjoy a drive off the asphalt if they so choose.

The all-wheel drive system is the already familiar 4Matic, which is already fitted to the A-Class in the A250 4Matic.
It is a permanent all-wheel drive system capable of varying the proportion of power between both axles by means of a multi-plate clutch.
GLAs equipped with the 4Matic system will only be available with the 7G-Tronic automatic transmission.
Numerous off-road driver assistance systems are part of the GLA’s equipment. These include the DSR, the commercial name for the hill descent control, which maintains the vehicle at a preset speed regardless of how steep the descent is.
In addition, the automatic transmission adds a new driving mode called “off-road”, which ensures the appropriate gear is always engaged to deliver all the response needed in situations of maximum demand. When this driving mode is selected, the ESP adapts by modifying its operating parameters. The multimedia system will also display a range of data on the central screen that can be useful when driving off the asphalt.

The engine range offers a total of four different alternatives: two petrol and two diesel. Those who opt for petrol can choose the GLA 200, with 156 CV and 250 Nm of torque, which is offered only with front-wheel drive. The other alternative is the GLA 250, which delivers 211 CV and 350 Nm of torque, and can be combined with either front-wheel drive or 4Matic all-wheel drive. The two diesel alternatives, the GLA 200 CDI and the GLA 220 CDI, offer 136 and 170 CV respectively, and both can be combined with all-wheel drive.
Official prices are not yet known, but the first units will arrive at dealerships in the middle of November.
