Mercedes-Benz GLS, the restyled German large SUV

Mercedes-Benz has released the details and photos of its latest launch. We’re talking about the GLS, the brand’s large SUV, which on this occasion debuts a new model name.
The GLS replaces the current GL, completing the full renewal of Mercedes-Benz’s SUV range.
Exteriorly, the GLS features a more attractive, more modern front end. It follows the lines of the brand’s latest models, with clear similarities to the new GLC and GLE. This GLS is not a completely new model, but an update of the discontinued GL, a model that was already several years old.

It also gets new body colours, as well as alloy wheels with updated designs. Other details that refresh the appearance of this great behemoth are the chrome trim in certain areas, or a new internal design for the rear light clusters.
Inside, the changes are a little more obvious. The previous dashboard with straight lines and recessed screens gives way to a layout similar to the GLE’s, with flowing lines and a large floating screen as the central feature. The instrumentation, steering wheel and multimedia system interface are of course also changed, with the latter adopting the rotary controller with an overlaid touchpad.

Technically, the GLS improves the performance of its engines, and is offered with several engines. The entry-level model is the GLS350d, a 255 CV diesel V6 with 616 Nm. Three petrol variants are offered: the GLS450, the GLS500 and the GLS63 AMG. The 500 variant rises to 450 CV, while the AMG-tuned version now reaches 577 CV.
In terms of safety, the GLS can be fitted with a large number of intelligent systems such as intelligent LED lighting system (ILS), automatic braking with pedestrian detection (PRE-SAFE Brake), cross-traffic assist or blind spot warning system, among others.
