Mercedes-Benz starts manufacturing the C-Class in the USA

Mercedes-Benz has announced that the C-Class has been manufactured for some time at the brand’s plant in Tuscaloosa, USA. The units built there are destined for the American and Canadian markets, where specifications are slightly different.

Mercedes has announced that the C-Class is already being produced at the brand’s plant in Tuscaloosa, USA.

It will share production with other models from the brand that have been built there for some time, such as the M-Class, the GL-Class or the R-Class.

This expansion of production responds to the brand’s need to supply C-Class units, as its reception has been even better than expected. In this way, and in order not to lengthen waiting lists too much, Mercedes has made this decision.

All C-Class production leaving the American plant will be destined exclusively for the US and Canadian markets. As we already know, vehicles sold on the other side of the pond usually come with a set of specifications different from cars sold in the European market. Thus, Mercedes-Benz saves time and money with each unit.

Taking the engines as an example, engines, in the US and Canada only two options are offered, for now. The first is a 2.0 Turbo petrol with 240 CV, while the second is a 3.0 V6 Biturbo with 330 CV.
Mercedes states that the quality of a C-Class built in the USA is exactly the same as one built in Germany.

Looking back, this has not always been the case. We all remember, a few years ago, the arrival of the M-Class. That SUV, precursor of one of today’s most popular segments, was built for the whole world in the USA, something that still happens today. However, the M-Class was heavily criticised for a rather notable lack of quality, unworthy of a vehicle with the star on its nose.

Luckily, times change, and brands have raised their game in this respect. Mercedes-Benz is not the only brand that has decided to build some of its models in the USA, BMW has also been doing so for years with good results.
