Mercedes-Benz Vision V: that's how traveling anywhere should feel

The production version of the Vision V, called VLS, will reach the European market next year at a price that is still unknown, but will surely be quite high.

Ahead of the opening of the Shanghai Motor Show, Mercedes-Benz has surprised us all with the unveiling of the Vision V, an impressive prototype that takes the concept of luxury to a new level and is based on its new VAN.EA platform for commercial and passenger transport vehicles.

With this prototype, the German manufacturer gives us a broad preview of what the future VLS will be like, the most luxurious vehicle within the V-Class for private customers. In addition, Mercedes-Benz also plans to sell the VLE, a Premium family MPV inspired by the E-Class. These two models will replace the current EQV, better meeting the specific needs of its customers.

The Vision V represents the ultimate expression of luxury, surpassing even Maybach’s current offerings, as can be seen in the images. Its interior has been conceived as a private lounge, cosier even than your own home. The unrestrained luxury becomes apparent even before you open the large rear door, which features a screen displaying relevant information and facial recognition for access.

Sit back and enjoy

Once inside the cabin, the sensation is that of being in a futuristic limousine, with no shortage of Premium materials such as white nappa leather, silk and open-pore walnut wood. The design of the seats is also worth highlighting. Described by Mercedes-Benz itself as “first class”, they offer superior ergonomics and the ability to recline to an almost horizontal position, guaranteeing exceptional comfort.

But if all this has already left you amazed, what comes next will leave you speechless. Mercedes-Benz has integrated a 65-inch 4K OLED screen that can curve and rises from the floor of the vehicle at the touch of a button. The digital experience is further completed by a Dolby Atmos system with 42 speakers for a unique audiovisual immersion, and a projector system that enhances the experience.

Electrochromic glass is also an essential element in the interior of the Vision V. Mercedes-Benz uses this technology so that the glass separating the rear space from the driver’s area can be made opaque or transparent at will, thus offering a greater level of privacy and insulation. The same applies to the side windows.

Electric or plug-in hybrid

As for its technical specifications, as far as we know today the VLS will be available in both electric and combustion-engine hybrid versions. The former will feature an 800V architecture and will be equipped with a 100 kWh battery pack that will allow it to cover more than 500 km on a single charge.

In short, with the Vision V Mercedes-Benz is creating a new category, not previously existing within the brand: extreme luxury MPVs that rival the offerings Maybach has so far provided. A type of vehicle in high demand in China, which is why it is no coincidence that its presentation took place in Shanghai.
