The automotive industry is always willing to collaborate with other industries to improve its offering. Even with the entertainment sector, as we have already seen with brands’ participation in many films or the appearance of some actor or actress in their TV spots and promotional campaigns. But now Mercedes wants to go a step further and has been working for some time with Linkin Park to improve the sound of its electric vehicles.

The band has previously worked with the brand on some advertising campaigns, but now they are working to ensure the models of the star suit sound in a way that excites not only the people driving them, but also those who hear that sound. Linkin Park are specialists in electronic sound, so their experience and advice are being used to create a spectacular sound for the electrified cars that will soon reach the market.

But the music group is not the only one collaborating with Mercedes to create an artificial sound that replaces the one produced by the combustion engine. Mercedes has set up a research division made up of professionals from the professional sound world to achieve a sound that stirs emotions. This team is formed by sound technicians with experience in the entertainment world, such as film, video games and many other fields of entertainment.

This is no trivial matter, because part of the emotion a car evokes comes precisely from the sound. We recall that there are engine sounds registered for a specific type of vehicle and brand, such as the distinctive sound of Harley Davidsons, which cannot be reproduced on any other motorcycle. So with this team, which has been operating for several years, we can be sure that the new electric cars from Mercedes will have a sound that will stir the emotions of anyone who hears it.

One of the first cars to benefit from this laboratory-created sound system will be the Project One, a hypercar that will use a 1.6-litre V6 engine and four electric motors that together deliver a power output of 1,000 CV. It is not the only imposing car that will have electric power from the brand, as the AMG 53, which will sit between the AMG 43 and the AMG 63, will also feature a 3.0-litre engine combined with electric motors.

This control over all the elements involved in building the car, including things that seem as far removed from the world of the engine as sound, is what makes cars like these truly creators of emotion on wheels.
