As we noticed when reading the press release for the C250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY Prime Edition, in which the German manufacturer mentioned the E-Class coupé, several media outlets such as Auto Motor und Sport now seem to confirm that Mercedes-Benz plans to rename both the CLK and the CL to simply call them the E-Class coupé/cabriolet and S-Class coupé.

All of this would happen starting in 2009, when the new generation of the CLK begins to be unveiled, and then when the CL undergoes the same process it will adopt the new name. On the one hand, this new naming scheme is longer to pronounce, but on the other it will simplify the alphabet soup that Mercedes-Benz has in its range. What should not happen is for customers to change their minds just because of the name change.
