MG6 receives the seal of approval from Autocar

As for the future of MG and the arrival of SAIC’s models on the old continent, we still don’t have much news. New details are gradually emerging, but the only clear date seems to be 2011, when the MG6 will hit the British market, while the rest of Europe will have to wait a little longer.
When SAIC unveiled the MG6, we could already see that the design had little in common with its Chinese counterparts, on the contrary, we were faced with a compact with a Europe-oriented design and quite attractive. We still needed to find out about the materials used or how its 1.8-litre K-Series engine behaves, as well as the MG6’s response. Fortunately, the guys at Autocar have already gotten behind the wheel of the MG6, comparing it with one of the segment’s benchmarks, the Ford Focus, and drawing very interesting conclusions.
As for the quality of materials, according to Autocar, it features an interior with a sober design and materials that could improve in finish , but they attribute this to the fact that the unit tested was a pre-production model, and they expect the overall finish to improve somewhat further.

But what surprised the team at the British magazine most was the behaviour of the MG6, since its chassis is very well calibrated, making the MG6 a vehicle with a very agile response, as well as steering that responds very well and suspension that rises to the occasion, making its behaviour impeccable.
The other complaint concerned its engine, which, despite having undergone minor changes, is still a familiar K-Series unit, and although lively it doesn’t quite deliver with force. Even so, I find the comparison with the Focus very interesting, and especially the conclusions reached by the people at Autocar. As for materials, I think it’s more a matter of price, since the MG6 is expected to arrive with attractive prices, and therefore somewhere it will have to cut corners , , let’s hope it arrives in Spain soon so we can judge it ourselves, because it’s a compact that looks very promising.
