Mini creates augmented reality glasses

Mini has announced plans to introduce its augmented vision system at the Shanghai Motor Show. This technology is based on projecting additional information onto a person’s field of vision, in the same way a HUD does, receiving data from the car via wireless data.
These glasses will provide drivers with all the information about their journey within their field of vision. Navigation, speed limits, messages from their phone and the parking assistant are just some of the features these glasses offer. In addition, objects that are normally invisible (animals, pedestrians or other vehicles) could be seen and avoided with the “X-ray vision” function.

The prototype was presented in Shanghai and was developed jointly with several Qualcomm companies; the system is called MINI Augmented Vision. According to Qualcomm: “We are proud to have helped develop a major advance that enhances the reality interface between the glasses and the car. This is also a compelling example of what is possible today, and what can be expected in the future using automotive technology.
