Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV: the best-selling electric SUV for the third consecutive year

Mitsubishi-Outlander-PHEV-1

Mitsubishi is celebrating after achieving significant growth in 2016. Sales of the Outlander range have increased by 154% compared to 2015, thanks largely to the success of the Outlander PHEV. The plug-in hybrid SUV from Mitsubishi has accumulated 555 sales over the last year, which places it well ahead of its rivals in the plug-in electric category.

Comparing it with other models of similar characteristics, we have the Volvo XC90 (128 units), BMW X5 (120 units), Volkswagen Golf (115 units) or the Volkswagen Passat (102 units). This hybrid SUV took 40% of the market share in 2016, meaning almost 1 in every 2 plug-in electric cars is an Outlander PHEV.

With a consumption of 1.7 litres and 200 CV of power, it is positioned as the SUV with the best consumption. The Outlander PHEV is the leader in its category for the third consecutive year, and its consumption is the lowest in the SUV segment: 1.7 litres. The Outlander’s PHEV technology is classified as “Zero Emissions”, granting the vehicle a series of privileges that have been well received by buyers. Among other benefits, the following stand out:

  • Exemption from traffic restrictions in city centres
  • Free parking without parking meter charges and with no time limit.
  • Exemption from the registration tax and tax advantages in personal income tax. Reductions in the IVTM and IAE
  • Free access to Bus-VAO-Eco lanes with a single driver
  • Free access on toll roads in Catalonia
  • Economic advantages of joining the Movea Plan
  • Five-year vehicle warranty and eight years for the batteries
  • Subsidies for the installation of charging points

Mitsubishi aims to continue this growth in 2017, based on the launch of the new ASX MY17 and the renewal of the Outlander range, which, as a reminder, focused on improving electric performance by increasing range, reducing emissions in combustion mode and enabling an EV button to access electric mode manually. The 2.0-litre engine remains unchanged, offering a combined power of up to 200 CV.
