New 5.5-litre V8 for the Mercedes E63 AMG

Since Mercedes are still thinking about engine downsizing, and proof of what I say is the decision they have recently made to drop the fantastic 6.2-litre V8 that AMG used in its latest models in favour of a much cheaper and, above all, more efficient block.
Because of this, the German star brand has just announced that this unit will be replaced by a 5.5-litre twin-turbo V8, an engine that, as you well know, is already available in the Mercedes S63 AMG and will later be fitted to the rest of the brand’s models, including the E63 AMG that we love so much.

With this change, Mercedes has guaranteed not only an engine that is far more restrained in terms of emissions and consumption, but also a very significant increase in power: the previous 6.2 V8 produced 525 hp, while the new 5.5 V8 will deliver the same power but, combined with the well-known Performance Package, it will produce no less than 551 hp.
In this way, the new Mercedes E63 AMG would be capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.5 seconds, while its top speed will be electronically limited to 250 km/h. That limit can be raised to 300 km/h if you pass the test and the driver attends the AMG Driving Academy course.
As for real benefits, the reduction in consumption stands out: this model has a homologated consumption of 9.8 litres/100 km, very good news compared with the 12.6 litres/100 km of the current 6.3 V8.
