New Audi A3 Sedan: the 4-door A3, now sportier

Audi adds the Sedan body style to the range of the new A3, a compact saloon with sporty design that will go on sale in the summer for about 900 euros more than the Sportback.

The range of the new Audi A3 is being completed step by step: the recently unveiled A3 Sportback is now joined by the elegant three-box version, the new Audi A3 Sedan.

Technically, the second generation of the A3 Sedan is equivalent to the A3 Sportback in terms of chassis, engines and transmission systems. The same applies to the structure of the range and its equipment. Here you can watch all the technology of the A3 Sportback in a series of 8 videos.

Range and launch prices of the new A3 Sedan

Initially it goes on sale with the 150 CV TFSI petrol engines, both with the manual gearbox and with the S tronic dual-clutch gearbox, which is paired with Mild Hybrid technology and carries the ECO label. In diesel, the launch engine is the 150 CV 35 TDI, with dual-clutch gearbox.

A few weeks after arrival at dealerships, planned for the summer, the 30 TFSI with the 1.0 three-cylinder engine will be added as the entry-level version of the range, which already has its price. A Mild Hybrid variant of the latter, with S Tronic gearbox, will progressively complete the offer.

The differences between the A3 Sedan and the A3 Sportback

Logically, the main differences between the new A3 Sedan and the Sportback lie in the design, particularly at the rear.

The new A3 Sedan shares its wheelbase with the Sportback (2,636 mm), while its length reaches 4,495 mm, which is 15 cm more than the Sportback. Width (1,816 mm) and height (1,425 mm) are the same. The boot capacity of the A3 Sedan is 425 litres, compared with 380 litres for the Sportback. With the same engine, the Sedan weighs about 5 kg more.

Compared with the previous generation, the A3 Sedan is 4 cm longer and improves its aerodynamic drag coefficient Cx, which stands at 0.25.

Apart from boot capacity, in practical terms the A3 Sedan and the Sportback are the same, offering a digitalised interior with the distinctive presentation that characterises Audi models. The entry versions already come with digital instrumentation as standard, with a 10.25-inch screen. Optionally, you can go up to the 12.3 inches of the Audi Virtual Cockpit Plus.

The suspension has been tuned to offer the best balance between comfort and sportiness. Optionally, you can opt for adaptive damping control suspension. As on the A3 Sportback, the driver assistance systems include collision avoidance assist, adaptive cruise control and the efficiency assistant.
