New Citroën SpaceTourer, a versatile people carrier
New Citroën SpaceTourer
Citroën is a pioneer in the world of people carriers and ludospaces. The Citroën SpaceTourer will make its world debut at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show. With this latest addition, the French brand completes its offering in this type of vehicle. It has exterior dimensions of 4.60 metres in length and a height of 1.90 metres.
Its design stands out, dominated by curved and fluid lines across the entire body. At the front, a wide bumper dominated by chevrons joins the line of the headlights, contrasting with the large air intakes flanked by vertically positioned LED daytime running lights.
On the side it features a sliding door that makes it easier for passengers to enter the cabin. At the rear it has a large tailgate whose rear window opens independently of the tailgate as a whole. The bodywork is available in a range of 9 colours: Onyx Black, Imperial Blue, Rich Oak Brown, Platinum Grey, Aluminium Grey, Turmaline Orange, Lake Blue, Sand and Banquise White.

This new people carrier benefits from a new variant of the EMP2 modular platform used in the C4 Picasso and Grand C4 Picasso. Thanks to its modularity it can offer two wheelbases (2.92 m and 3.27 m), with two rear overhangs (0.80 m and 1.15 m) and 3 lengths: XS at 4.60 metres (unprecedented in the segment) combined with a short wheelbase, M at 4.95 metres and XL at 5.30 metres, combined with the long wheelbase.
The interior is very spacious and versatile thanks to the wide variety of configurations available, which respond to the different needs and demands of each customer. It can accommodate up to 9 occupants, thanks to a third row of seats, and in addition, the boot size varies according to the body version, all of them being very large. XS body: 1,978 litres, M body: 2,381 litres and XL body: 2,932 litres.
The Citroën SpaceTourer is offered in four versions: SpaceTourer Feel, SpaceTourer Shine, SpaceTourer Business and SpaceTourer Business Lounge. Depending on the option chosen, the side doors can be powered. Passengers also have airline-style tray tables, sun blinds, 12V and 220V power sockets. Thanks to its large glazed area and panoramic roof, the cabin is very bright.
Interior of the New Citroën SpaceTourer
For a comfortable ride, the SpaceTourer features a reinforced pseudo-McPherson front suspension with anti-roll bar, and a new oblique triangle-type rear suspension, which can accommodate up to 9 people with their luggage. These suspension systems can incorporate a 4×4 transmission (DANGEL conversion). The springs have variable stiffness and the shock absorbers feature Variable Load-Dependent Damping (AMVAC).
In terms of infotainment, the SpaceTourer has nothing to envy from any car. The new 7″ touchscreen tablet, debuting in this people carrier, allows control of all audio, phone and navigation functions. The Mirror Screen function makes it possible to use smartphone apps on the 7″ touchscreen tablet. This feature is combined with Apple CarPlay and MirrorLink technologies.
The new 3D touchscreen navigation system with real-time connectivity, Citroën Connect Nav, can be controlled by voice recognition or via the 7″ touchscreen. It is linked to connected services such as TomTom Traffic. Other features of the SpaceTourer include: the Head-Up Display, Smartbeam intelligent headlights (which switch between dipped and main beam depending on traffic), the Top Rear Vision and the Grip Control anti-slip system.
Seat modularity
Active and passive safety is also very much present in this new model. Systems such as the Lane Departure Warning (AFIL), Blind Spot Monitoring, road sign reading and recommendations, Coffee Break Alert, Driver Attention Warning, Active Cruise Control or Active Safety Brake vouch for this.
The engines available on the Citroën SpaceTourer are state-of-the-art and all diesel from the BlueHDi engine family.
- BlueHDi 95: 5.5 l/100 km and 144 g/km CO2.
- BlueHDi 95 S&S ETG6: 5.2 l/100 km and 135 g/km CO2.
- BlueHDi 115 S&S 6-speed: 5.1 l/100 km and 133 g/km CO2.
- BlueHDi 150 S&S 6-speed: 5.3 l/100 km and 139 g/km CO2.
- BlueHDi 180 S&S EAT6: 5.8 l/100 km and 151 g/km CO2.
