New images of the upcoming rival to the Porsche Macan
Land Rover has revealed an image of the Range Rover Velar, a model that will sit between the Evoque and Sport ranges. The mid-size SUV will cost around €47,000.
The British car manufacturer is preparing the arrival of a new SUV to its range: the Range Rover Velar. The mid-size crossover will be unveiled next March at the Geneva Motor Show. Before that, Land Rover has previewed part of its final appearance.

The name of the Range Rover Velar comes from the first prototypes of this model created in the 1960s. The dimensions of this SUV place it between the Range Rover Evoque and the Range Rover Sport. Although the base price of this model has not yet been confirmed, it is estimated to be around €47,000. If confirmed, the Range Rover Velar will go head-to-head directly with models such as the BMW X4 (€49,200) or the Porsche Macan (€63,180).
“We called it Velar, the avant-garde Range Rover. It brings a new dimension of glamour, modernity and elegance to the brand. The Range Rover Velar changes everything,” says Gerry McGovern, Chief Design Officer at Land Rover.

The teaser image published by Land Rover shows a panoramic view of the rear of the Range Rover Velar. In that image we can see a panoramic glass roof covering more than three quarters of the upper part of the car. The Velar’s headlights feature a horizontal layout, unlike the typical vertical configuration that has recently characterised Range Rover models. In the distance, a large panoramic infotainment system can also be glimpsed.
Everything points to the new British crossover offering a range of four-cylinder and V6 engines carried over from the Evoque and Sport models. Nor can it be ruled out that the Range Rover Velar will feature a high-performance V8 engine, as well as a plug-in hybrid version.

It is worth noting that the Range Rover Velar will have a lot in common with the Jaguar F-Pace. Both models are built on the same intensive aluminium IQ platform; this platform focuses on the performance of its vehicles rather than their off-road capabilities.
The British brand will reveal more information about the Range Rover Velar on 1 March.
