New Renault Espace: first photos and information

With due respect to the EOLAB prototype and the Clio Initiale Paris, the most important scoop that Renault has kept for the next Paris Motor Show is the new generation of the Espace. The French brand has published today its first details and three images that confirm the reinvention of the model. After four generations of MPVs, the fifth will become a crossover, as the Renault itself defines it.
The design was already anticipated by the Initiale Paris prototype that we saw at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. The changes the Espace has received during this period are limited to touch-ups on the front bumper air intakes, more conventional exterior mirrors and door handles, chrome trim on the sills and rear bumper, new wheels (although they retain the enormous size of those on the prototype) or redesigned rear lights, among others.

The modifications will be most noticeable in the cabin, since production versions usually feature far less futuristic interiors. Although Renault has not yet shown images of the Espace’s interior, the brief statement it has released says it will combine the traditional versatility and ergonomics of the model with new materials and the “floating” dashboard previewed by the Initiale Paris.
In addition, the note adds that, despite the new approach to the Espace concept, the vehicle will continue to be offered in five– and seven-seat versions. The rest of the information will be revealed when the Paris show opens on 2 October. We will see what impressions the Espace’s transformation makes in person.
