Nine speeds for the Mercedes-Benz E-Class
Mercedes-Benz announces the arrival of several updates for its executive saloon, the E-Class. The range gains a new 9-speed automatic gearbox called 9G-Tronic, as well as a new natural gas engine named E200 NGD.

Mercedes-Benz has just announced the introduction of numerous improvements to the recently launched E-Class facelift. These will be purely technical upgrades; the styling will not be changed.
A new gearbox and a new engine join the range to complete it and adapt it to the needs of the most demanding customers.
The biggest news comes from the transmissions, which have been reorganised. For the time being, exclusively on the E350 Bluetec version, a new gearbox called 9G-Tronic is introduced, which, as the name suggests, has no fewer than nine ratios. Performance remains unchanged, with a top speed of 250 km/h and a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 6.6 seconds. Combined with a new Start&Stop system, average consumption drops from 5.5 to 5.3 litres per 100 km, while emissions fall from 144 to 138 g/km.
The biggest gain is found in the urban cycle, where consumption drops from 6.9 to 6.4 litres per 100 km. Consumption on the extra-urban cycle remains unchanged at 4.7 litres per 100 km.

The E220 BlueEfficiency Edition drops the manual gearbox and adopts the 7G-Tronic, with combined consumption now at 4.4 litres, down from 4.7 previously. Emissions fall to 114 g/km, so it now meets the Euro 6 emissions standard.
In addition, a new natural gas-powered engine, marketed as the E200 NGD, joins the range. It is a two-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged unit producing 154 CV and 269 Nm of torque. Its average consumption is 6.3 litres per 100 km.
