Nissan Note Black Edition, fresh air for Japan's city car

Nissan is launching a special edition for its compact MPV, the Nissan Note Black Edition. The main changes come from a bodywork with sporty elements and certain details finished in black. Inside, the always-sporty colour black is also very present.

Currently Nissan is mainly living off the good results of crossovers such as the Qashqai and the Juke. Neither of these two needs an introduction; their sales figures and the “prestige” they have earned as the pioneers of the compact SUV and small SUV segments in Europe speak for themselves.

However, they are not their only models. They also have more traditional cars such as the Nissan Pulsar, which we tested a few weeks ago, or the Nissan Note. The Note belongs to the B-segment, although it is a somewhat unusual concept for what we are used to and one that seems never to quite fit in, a compact MPV.

The Nissan Note seems to need a bit of distinction, something to catch the eye. When it went on sale for the first time a few years ago, people either liked it or didn’t, but sales figures were respectable. Now it seems to have stalled.

Either way, the Japanese manufacturer is launching the Nissan Note Black Edition, an edition that perhaps seeks precisely that: to attract attention and make itself noticed, to show the world that it is still here.

With a very sporty look thanks to elements finished in black, this edition positions itself as the most interesting option for an audience that is, or feels, young. These black details we mentioned are found on the bumpers, the mirror housings, the door handles, the 16-inch wheels and the spoiler. As you can see, it is not just a matter of painting parts that were already black; the bumpers and the spoiler are new and more robust, and it also adds side sills that keep the body colour.

In the interior it has also received changes, including black on the glossy-finished centre console, the gear lever and the roof. As for equipment, this Black Edition is based on the mid-range Acenta trim, so it already comes as standard with a multifunction leather steering wheel, Bluetooth and rear electric windows, among other things.

As for its engines, the Nissan Note Black Edition is offered with the 1.5-litre diesel engine producing 90 CV, and the 1.2 petrol engines in 80 CV and 98 CV versions, the latter available with a manual gearbox or a CVT automatic.

The brand has not yet disclosed the price or the number of units of this edition, or whether it is limited.
