Nissan shows the upcoming autonomous Qashqai and LEAF

The Japanese manufacturer will open its autonomous technology to London’s public with a modified Nissan LEAF. In this way, Nissan will test the autonomous system of the future Qashqai and LEAF.

Seamless Autonomous Mobility: The ultimate Nissan Intelligent Integration

Nissan will begin real-world testing with autonomous cars next month in Great Britain. The Japanese manufacturer will give a number of passengers the opportunity to experience and try the autonomous technology they are developing, using a modified Nissan LEAF.

This news follows recent announcements that both the upcoming Qashqai and the new LEAF, which will soon arrive, will be equipped with Pro Pilot autonomous driving technology. The electric vehicle par excellence, of which more than 250,000 units have been sold since its launch in 2010, will mark a new chapter in Intelligent EnergyNissan, allowing autonomous driving in a single lane on motorways with this system.

Seamless Autonomous Mobility: The ultimate Nissan Intelligent Integration

“Innovation and excitement are at the heart of the Nissan brand and all of its people. We have been developing that entrepreneurial spirit for more than half a century in Europe. Within a few weeks we will see the Nissan Leaf driving through the streets of London with our autonomous driving technology. Nissan’s intelligent mobility is something that is happening right now across Europe,” says Paul Willcox, president of Nissan Europe.

To accelerate the arrival of autonomous vehicles, Nissan has announced a cutting-edge technology called Seamless Autonomous Mobility (constant intelligent mobility). The SAM system, developed from NASA technology, connects the artificial intelligence built into the car with human backup to help autonomous vehicles make decisions in unpredictable situations and generate the vehicle’s AI knowledge. Nissan expects this technology to enable autonomous and conventional cars to coexist in a shorter period of time than expected.

The Japanese manufacturer has also announced that, for the first time, it will launch several trials aimed at developing driverless vehicles for commercial uses. These trials will begin this same year in Japan.
