Nissan unveils its new electric Interstar van
The new generation of the electric-powered Nissan Interstar will hit the streets of European cities this very summer, to meet the needs of the most demanding professionals
The Japanese manufacturer has just unveiled the new generation of its large-capacity Interstar van, which in the European market will be available not only with a combustion engine but also with a fully electric powertrain. The Nissan Interstar-e shares much of its technology with the Renault Master E-Tech, so it is no surprise that its technical specification sheet is very similar.
Also based on the same platform as the fourth-generation Renault Master E-Tech, this new van from the Japanese manufacturer is likewise available with two different battery packs, of 40 and 87 kWh of capacity. Nissan promises a WLTP range of 200 km with the smaller battery pack, and 460 km with the larger one.

As far as charging is concerned, the Japanese manufacturer states that at a DC fast-charging point, in just 30 minutes it is possible to add 252 km of range if the larger battery pack is fitted, and 200 km with the smaller one. Likewise, on AC, completing a charge from 10 percent will take less than four hours. Nissan has not specified the maximum charging power supported by the new Interstar-e but, considering this figure should be identical to that of the Renault Master E-Tech, we would be talking about 130 kW on DC and 22 kW on AC.
Similarly, Nissan has not revealed the power of the new Interstar-e’s motor either, but we know that the Renault Master E-Tech has one with 96 kW of power, and a more powerful version with a new 105 kW electric motor will also be sold in the near future.
Improvements aimed at making each working day a little easier
Compared with the previous generation with a combustion engine, the new Interstar-e offers larger dimensions, improved aerodynamics and more configuration options. The maximum gross vehicle weight is four tonnes, with a towing capacity of up to 2.5 tonnes and a payload of up to 1.6 tonnes. On the other hand, the turning circle has been reduced by one and a half metres.

As for equipment, Nissan states that all versions of the Interstar come with a good number of safety systems, including emergency braking assist, driver fatigue warning, tyre pressure monitoring and a trailer stabilisation system when one is hitched. The manufacturer also highlights the updated interior of its new van, with heated seats as well as a heated windscreen, and a new infotainment system among other novelties.

Nissan will begin accepting orders for the Interstar-e this spring, so that the first deliveries can be made this very summer. The Japanese manufacturer will offer a general warranty of 5 years or 160,000 kilometres, which for the battery pack will be 8 years or 160,000 kilometres.
