Juke Nissan Qashqai Electric Cars
Nissan will produce the new electric Qashqai and Juke at Sunderland
The new generation of the Qashqai and Juke will include fully electric versions, and their production will take place at the British plant in Sunderland
Earlier this year, the Japanese manufacturer announced that the next generation of its most popular electric model, the Leaf, will once again be produced at the British plant in Sunderland, which currently supplies the units for the European market of the current generation. The new Nissan Leaf, which will be quite different from the current one and is rumoured to be a crossover, will not, however, be the only electric model to come out of this plant.
British media now claim that, today, Friday 24 November 2023, the Japanese manufacturer will publicly announce that the Sunderland plant will also be in charge of the electric versions of the next generation of the Juke and Qashqai.

To carry this project forward, British media report that Nissan will make a significant investment in the Sunderland plant, amounting to one billion pounds sterling. Roughly 1,150 million euros. Likewise, both the UK Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, and the Chief Executive of Nissan, Makoto Uchida, are expected to attend an event at the same Sunderland plant to unveil the Japanese manufacturer’s plans.
Uncertainty fades for the Sunderland plant
Some British media also claim that talks between Nissan and the British Government have been ongoing for some time, and it is not ruled out that the latter has committed to helping the Japanese manufacturer financially, in one way or another, to secure production of these two electric models at Sunderland.
Nissan already produces the combustion-engine versions of the Qashqai and Juke at Sunderland, as well as the versions with a certain degree of electrification of these two popular models. Confirmation now, if it finally happens, of production of the fully electric versions of the next-generation Qashqai and Juke will undoubtedly be very well received by the plant’s employees, who will see their future secured for the coming years.

Currently, at the Sunderland plant, Nissan employs 6,000 people; to which must be added several thousand jobs in the local industry that will also benefit and that form part of Nissan’s supply chain in the United Kingdom.
