On holiday with the Ford Custom by Tinkervan
Ford has unveiled a camper version of one of its best-known vans, with a configuration that makes it one of the best options for a holiday without needing to drive a motorhome, yet with features that almost make it one

When summer arrives we get ready to go on holiday and we are quickly set to hit the road and head to the most unexpected places to enjoy our free time. Sometimes we stay in hotels, other times at campsites, and we can even enjoy other types of accommodation, including vans designed to become, for a few days, real homes for leisure and a place to rest during our journey.
Ford has teamed up with the Spanish company specialising in converting vehicles into living spaces, Tinkervan, to create a camper version of the Ford Tourneo, which becomes a home for enjoying free time and resting during our trips. To create this model, they based it on the Ford Tourneo Custom 2.2 litre, which they reworked to turn it into a much more practical and useful vehicle.
This summer travel vehicle is available in three variants: with a pop-up roof, with a convertible seat, and with a pop-up roof and convertible seat. The pop-up roof, the main feature of this vehicle, has the VEX injection system and is opened via a hydraulic mechanism. The safety latches ensure it closes properly so there are no scares during the journey, and you can sleep on the 2 x 1.30 metre bed with an aluminium slatted base and flexible aluminium slats. Ventilation of the sleeping area is provided by three windows with insect screens.

At the lower level we find the convertible seat, which goes from being a three-seat bench to becoming a 1.90 x 1.45 metre bed, ideal for a good night’s sleep without going up to the roof. As it is designed for use outdoors, in the countryside, it is equipped to supply electricity to various devices, thanks to a 100 Ah traction AGM auxiliary battery and several 12 V sockets, USB ports and even a transformer to provide a 220 V power supply.
The adapted van also features a parking heater, powered by a diesel engine, and it is highly practical thanks to its swivelling front seats and the tables that fold out of the doors. Its functionality can be increased with a 41-litre portable fridge, an outdoor table and an awning to shelter in the shade.
There are two configurations, one with eight seats and another with nine, with two different wheelbases. The short one has a wheelbase of 2,933 mm, with an overall length of 4.97 metres. The long one measures 3,300 mm, with a length of 5.34 metres. The 2.2-litre engine is paired with a six-speed manual gearbox and, technically, it has all the technology usually found in vehicles of this type.
Driver assistance systems, which connect the phone to the vehicle, and a system for reducing polluting gas emissions make this vehicle a very pleasant, practical option and, above all, an ideal companion for our summer holidays or at any time of the year.
