Opel Grandland X Hybrid4: the new plug-in hybrid arrives with 300 hp
The new Opel Grandland X Hybrid4 has been officially presented at the Frankfurt Motor Show, and it arrives with truly interesting figures.
Opel introduces plug-in hybrid technology into its SUV family thanks to the new Opel Grandland X Hybrid4. The brand used the Frankfurt Motor Show to showcase its new model, which shares the spotlight with the new Opel Astra and, of course, the new Opel Corsa.
The new Opel Grandland X Hybrid4 delivers a total output of 300 hp. This respectable figure is achieved through three powertrains: two electric motors and one combustion engine. The combustion engine is a 1.6 capable of producing 200 hp and is supported by two electric motors – one per axle – which together deliver an additional 109 hp.
The first electric motor, on the front axle, is coupled directly to the 8-speed automatic gearbox. The rear-axle motor, on the other hand, is mounted alongside the differential. Thanks to these and the support of the combustion engine, the Opel Grandland X Hybrid4 is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 7 seconds.
Therefore, the new version of the brand’s already well-established SUV features all-wheel drive available whenever road conditions require it. In addition, the Opel Grandland X Hybrid4 achieves an electric range of 50 kilometres and fuel consumption that no non-electrified vehicle can match: 2.2 litres per 100 kilometres.
Opel joined the PSA Group in 2017, so the development of this version was carried out entirely in parallel with that of the new Peugeot 3008 GT Hybrid4, with which it shares its PHEV powertrain.
The Opel Grandland X Hybrid4 can be recharged in several ways
The driver can choose between four driving modes: electric, hybrid, AWD and Sport. There is also a regenerative braking system, which charges the batteries while driving to extend range by up to 10%. Another of the available programmes is “Regeneration on Demand”, the most extreme level of regeneration, which allows one-pedal driving.
When the German SUV is driven around the city, it can do so in electric mode, so fuel consumption will be zero. We must not forget that, thanks to its plug-in hybrid (PHEV) technology and, above all, its 50-kilometre electric range, the Opel Grandland X Hybrid4 carries the DGT zero-emissions label. Therefore, there will be no problem entering city centres with low-emission zones.
Finally, the battery can be recharged in 1 hour and 50 minutes if connected to a 32-amp, 230-volt socket. If charged from a domestic socket (Schuko), i.e. 16 amps and 230 volts, the process would take 3 hours.
How much does the new PHEV from Opel cost?
Opel will also offer its customers a front-wheel-drive variant called Opel Grandland X Hybrid. This one comes at a lower price and loses the rear-axle motor, so the combined output of the combustion engine and electric motor drops to 225 hp.
Therefore, if you want to access the plug-in hybrid SUV family from Opel, prices start at €37,425 for the Opel Grandland X Hybrid and, if you choose the all-wheel-drive version, the price of the Opel Grandland X Hybrid4 starts at €48,825.
