Paris Motor Show 2012: Subaru

Subaru has presented the BRZ XT Concept, a tuned version of the Subaru BRZ, along with the Subaru XV and the new Forester, Legacy and Outback.

The highlight of Subaru in Paris has been the BRZ XT Concept, along with the standard BRZ and other well-known models such as the Forester and the Outback and the Subaru XV.

The Subaru BRZ XT Concept revives the XT designation, used on some 1980s coupés that offered a turbo engine and all-wheel drive. Although those cars were a failure for Subaru, the Japanese company is now taking a risk with its new coupé, the BRZ, with a kind of in-house tuning package.

The BRZ XT features a carbon-fibre roof (or at least it appears to be) together with a discreet rear spoiler and exterior details finished in carbon already seen on other customisations. Nor could the eye-catching red brake calipers be missing. It’s not bad, although it gives the impression that this is a Subaru model for the SEMA Show rather than the Paris Motor Show.

The Subaru XV is the brand’s new crossover, which will be manufactured in Indonesia and has already gone on sale, with orders being taken in the Asian market ahead of production starting in January 2013. But besides the XV, we also came across the new Forester, with a larger grille and front bumper and an interior with a feel similar to the XV’s; not surprisingly, they share a platform.

The Legacy and Outback unveiled their updates for 2013, with styling touch-ups and fuel-economy improvements thanks to an evolution of the 2.5-litre Boxer engine. The safety systems have also been improved, such as the collision detection and pre-collision assist systems.
