The French brand will focus its efforts on increasing its global sales, so the launch of new sports cars is not among its plans, for the time being.

Peugeot has bad news for sports car enthusiasts who were expecting the arrival of the 308 Hybrid R and the new RCZ. The CEO of the French brand, Jean-Philippe Imparato, has made it clear that the main goal of the brand is to increase its sales and become a global firm, so for the time being they are not thinking about launching sports cars.

“At this moment, our main objective is to sell more than two million units a year, and to sell more than 50% of our cars outside Europe. Until this is achieved, we will focus on cars that are sold to hundreds of thousands of people, not those that reach only a small group such as sports cars,” Imparato explained. The Peugeot RCZ has sold just 67,000 units since its launch, which is why the company will cancel its production.

As part of its sales growth plan, Peugeot wants to launch a new model in the pick-up segment. “With a one-tonne pick-up, we can reach a large global market,” the CEO of the French carmaker stated. Peugeot will also launch the new 508 model next year with the aim of increasing the number of vehicles sold. “The 508 will reach a new audience and increase sales,” Imparato said.

Among Peugeot’s ambitions is also the global expansion of the brand, in addition to a possible return to Africa and North America, the latter within five years. Imparato will soon travel to China to launch the new Peugeot 5008 in the Asian country.

The CEO of Peugeot says that once they achieve the goals they have on the table, they will get to work on a new RCZ that will try to set a new record at the Nürburgring circuit.
