Pininfarina will offer owners of the Battista an electric SUV that will debut in 2020. This information was revealed during a private briefing ahead of the Los Angeles Auto Show, where Automobili Pininfarina had the chance to outline its plans for the future following the production launch of its hypercar, the Pininfarina Battista, in 2020.

Pininfarina will celebrate its 90th anniversary next year, and it intends to combine that milestone with the acquisition of a production plant in Italy aimed at building two new models that will follow the Pininfarina Battista.

During the private event held on the eve of the Los Angeles Auto Show, Pininfarina’s Design Director also unveiled the design of the new concept called Pura Vision, a full-size luxury electric SUV that will make its world debut in North America during the second half of 2020.

Pininfarina has indicated that it wants to redefine “the market for purely electric cars branded as luxury utility vehicles”.

In addition, Pininfarina is partnering with Mahindra Racing for an event called ‘Hyperdrive‘ that will take place at the Calafat Circuit in Spain at the end of this year. This is where the first customers of the Pininfarina Battista will drive a suitable Formula E single-seater.

“Automobili Pininfarina’s experience at the Hyperdrive event will provide a new performance benchmark for hypercar buyers, but it also recognises the need to introduce new and different test drive experiences that allow visitors to better understand the technology of the future,” said Jochen Rudat, head of Automobili Pininfarina and Sales Officer. “Our customers loved the entire experience and we will be developing this initiative in the future.”

Development of the Pininfarina Battista electric hypercar is already under way, and the company has completed dynamic simulation and wind tunnel testing. Prototype examples will be tested extensively throughout the winter, before the first customer drives the model in spring 2020. Every Pininfarina Battista will be hand-assembled at the historic Cambiano facilities in Italy.

Pininfarina is collaborating with Bosch Engineering and Benteler to develop a dedicated electric car architecture that will underpin the brand’s future utility models and will even be offered to other car manufacturers.

The first Pininfarina car is named Battista in honour of the designer and founder of the company in 1930. Battista Pininfarina put his signature on ‘Carrozzeria Pininfarina‘ on some of the most iconic models in automotive history, such as the Alfa Romeo 8C of 1933, the Ferrari 250, the Ferrari 410 Superamerica, the Lancia Montecarlo, the Ferrari 288 GTO, the Peugeot 205, the Alfa Romeo Spyder, the Ferrari Enzo, the Nash-Healey, the Fiat 124 Spyder, the Rolls-Royce Camargue, the Ford Ka or the Maserati Quattroporte, among many others.
